How to share WiFi with a QR code
A WiFi QR code stores your network name, password and security type. Phones that scan it offer to join the network, so nobody has to read out or type a long password.
How to make a WiFi QR code
- Find your network name. It's on your router's label or in your phone's WiFi settings. Capitals and spaces matter.
- Open the WiFi generator. Go to the WiFi QR code generator and enter the name and password.
- Choose the security type. Almost every modern network uses WPA, WPA2 or WPA3: choose WPA. Choose 'No password' only for open networks.
- Download and test. Scan it with your own phone. If it joins, print it.
The code is made in your browser. Your network name and password are never sent to our servers.
How guests join
- iPhone (iOS 11 and later): open the Camera, point it at the code and tap the 'Join network' banner.
- Android 10 and later: open the Camera or Google Lens, or go to WiFi settings and tap the QR icon next to 'Add network'.
- Older phones: a QR scanner app usually works. Print the password in small text too.
Hidden networks
If your network doesn't broadcast its name, tick 'Hidden network'. The phone then knows to look for it.
Keep your network safe
- Share a guest network, not the one your tills, cameras or office computers use.
- Anyone who can see the code can join. Put it where only guests can see it.
- When you change the password, make and print a new code. A static WiFi code can't be updated.
