vCard QR codes on business cards: what to include
A vCard QR code holds a digital contact card. Scanning it opens the phone's 'New contact' screen with your details filled in and spelled correctly.
What to include
Every field makes the code denser, so include only what people will use:
- Name, company and job title.
- One phone number: your direct mobile line if you want calls.
- One email address.
- Your website or LinkedIn page.
- An address only if people visit you.
vCard, MeCard or a profile link?
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| vCard | Full details that work offline | Dense code; can't be edited after printing |
| MeCard | Name, phone and email on small prints | Fewer fields (no company or job title) |
| Link to a profile page | Details that change, photos, links | Needs a connection; use a dynamic code |
Printing on business cards
- Print the code at least 2 cm wide, more for a full vCard.
- Put it on the back of the card with a short line like 'Scan to save my contact'.
- Use SVG so the printer gets a sharp vector file.
- Test the proof: check every field lands in the right place on iPhone and Android.
Keeping details up to date
The details in a vCard code can't change after printing. If you change jobs or numbers often, link the code to an online profile and make it dynamic, so you can update the destination without new cards.
