What size should I print a QR code?
Minimum sizes and the distance rule for posters and signs.
A good rule: the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance. A code read from 2 meters (about 6 feet) away should be about 20 cm (8 in) wide.
- Business cards and labels: at least 2 cm (0.8 in).
- Flyers and menus held in the hand: 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in).
- Posters read from a few steps away: 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8 in).
- Signs and windows read from across a street: 50 cm (20 in) or more.
Tips for print
- Use a vector file (SVG, PDF or EPS) or the 4096 px PNG for anything large.
- Shorter content makes a less dense code that scans from further away. Dynamic codes are always short.
- Avoid glossy or curved surfaces where light reflects off the code.
- Print a proof and scan it in the light where it will hang.
