Frequently asked questions about QR codes
Basics
Is ScanMosaic really free?
Yes. Every code type, template, logo and color option is free, with PNG, JPG and WebP downloads, one dynamic code, three short links and one AI art image a day. Paid plans add more dynamic codes and links, full stats, print files (SVG, PDF, EPS, 4096 px), batch, teams and your own domain.
What's the difference between static and dynamic codes?
A static code stores your content in the pattern itself. It works forever but can't be changed. A dynamic code stores a short link that we redirect to your destination, so you can change the destination after printing and see how many people scan it.
Do the QR codes expire?
Static codes never expire. Your free dynamic code never expires either. Codes beyond the free allowance work while your plan is active, plus 14 days; after that they show a 'paused' page until you renew, and your scan history is kept.
Can I use the codes commercially?
Yes. Codes you make on any plan are yours to use on products, packaging, menus and ads.
Design and scanning
How do you know my code will scan?
After every change we read your code with a real QR decoder, the same way a phone camera does, and compare the result with what you entered. You'll see 'Verified' only when they match.
How does AI art work?
You describe a scene, and an image model paints your link into it. AI images are pictures, so they can be harder to scan; we test-scan every result and tell you if it fails. If generation fails, your credit is returned.
Will a logo stop it scanning?
QR codes have built-in error correction. When you add a logo we raise it to the highest level (H) so up to 30% of the code can be covered. Keep logos under about 35% and check the scan result.
What size should I print?
At least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for close-up scans. A good rule is one tenth of the scanning distance: a code read from 2 meters away should be about 20 cm wide.
Privacy and billing
Is my data private?
Static codes are made in your browser, so your WiFi passwords and contact details never reach us. For dynamic codes we store the destination link and anonymous scan counts. For AI art, your description and link are sent to our AI provider to create the image.
What do you record when someone scans a dynamic code?
The time, country, device type, operating system and browser. We don't store IP addresses, set cookies or know who scanned.
How do I use my plan on another device?
Sign in with your email on any device. We send a one-time code, so there's no password to remember. Your plan, codes and stats are tied to your account, and teammates you invite get their own sign-in.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open Plan & billing in your dashboard, or use the link in your Stripe receipt email. You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for, and your dynamic codes keep working for 14 days after that.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. If Pro isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund.
